MATA Makers Kit: pick a board, build, flash, provision
Why this band exists
Every home device starts the same way: a small board, a USB cable, and a question about which firmware goes where. Flash is the answer dldeploy builds on. The MATA Makers Kit holds a cited record for every supported board, composes the capabilities you asked for into one image, refuses anything that will not fit, flashes it, and watches the boot log so a failure is a sentence instead of a blinking LED.
Why now
The Arduino loop made hardware approachable and then left people with C, vendor clouds, and firmware nobody could audit. The Janus family rebuilt the ESP32 portfolio; the MATA Makers Kit is the part that makes it feel like plugging in a lamp. Six composed device profiles are verified on real boards today, and the rest are marked honestly as host-tested or planned.
How it fits
See, Hear, and Sense are the capabilities you choose. Connect decides how the device talks to the rest of the house. Own writes the identity partition that a reflash never touches. Flash is the moment all of them become one image on one board.
Bricks in Flash
Each brick is a package in the Janus family under Remade-With-Rust. Read the field note, then snap it onto the rest of the house.

C6, S3, XIAO Sense, ESP32-CAM: which board for which job
What to build first
- A porch camera from a XIAO ESP32-S3 Sense in one MATA Makers Kit run
- A provisioned device with Wi-Fi and a name written straight to NVS, passphrase never uploaded
- Your own sketch on the setup / loop facade, laptop first with HostBoard, then the chip
Field notes in Flash
Choosing an ESP32 Board: C6, S3, P4, XIAO Sense and ESP32-CAM
Which ESP32 board fits the job? Flash size, PSRAM and chip family decide what a home device can run, from a camera page to an iroh mesh node. Here is how to pick.
